Hello – I’m Jen from New York City
Most people have a “thing.” You know how people love to collect stuff? Like handbags or baseballs? And you know how some people are knowledgeable in mathematics or philosophy? That’s their thing. Well, my thing is writing about my passions: traveling and beauty.
I’m definitely not a professional or even a seasoned traveler. My first travels began with trips to Hershey Park (for my 5th birthday) in Pennsylvania, Ocean City in Maryland and Disney in Florida. At the age of 19, I packed my bags, waved goodbye to my parents and headed straight to England for study abroad – the best experience a young girl could have!
“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson
I’ve been to Canada (almost religiously), England, France, Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Aruba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and almost everywhere else in the Caribbean. But I need to see more.
It’s not a want, it’s a need. I can’t imagine life without traveling to small little bookshops, cafés, architectural gems and landscapes that amaze. Join me as I travel, travel, travel, from the boroughs of New York to the top of the Eiffel Tower and beyond!
Beauty? A passion? Well, yes, sort of.
While I’m not a makeup artist or fashionista by trade, I do love the world of beauty. The idea of being “the girl next door” to something completely different in just a matter of minutes is appealing. And as a brown girl, I don’t feel like there’s much representation for me. That’s why I’m here.
I write about products and looks that I think us brown girls can use (or not). What shade of red works best? What foundation actually matches? Do those eye shadows even show up on our skin? If we’re going to spend money, let’s try not to waste it. Of course, my content isn’t exclusive to one type of girl or guy. I welcome everyone! Scroll through my beauty posts to see something that will certainly catch your eye!
